What is E-Commerce?

E-Commerce is electronically trading and purchasing products and services using the internet. It is the meeting of sellers and traders over the internet. It is also known as Electronic Commerce and Internet Commerce. Transaction of Money and Data is also considered E-commerce. Websites like Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Shopify, Olx, etc are some examples of E-Commerce.

A classic example of E-Commerce is when you log in to Flipkart and buy some products and make the payment either online or offline. 

Types of E-Commerce Models

  • Business to Business (B2B)

  • Business to Consumer (B2C)

  • Consumer to Consumer (C2C)

  • Consumer to Business (C2B)

Business to Business (B2B)

          In the Business to Business Transaction model two companies are involved in the trade. The customer is not involved in the trade. In this model, a business sells its product or service to another Business.

For example, A company making a website for another company that is to be used for sales purposes.

Real-World Examples: Chemical Industry, Advertising and Marketing Industry

Business to Consumer (B2C)

In the Business to Consumer Transaction model the companies directly make the trade to the end customers. The users can visit the company’s website and get the details, reviews and other information about the product.No third parties are involved in this type of transaction.

For example, A company having an online store to sell clothes. The end customers will directly surf the website and will buy the product.

Real-World Examples: Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, etc.

Consumer to Consumer (C2C)

In the Consumer to Consumer Transaction model two customers are involved in the trade.No other business is not involved in the trade. In this model, a Customer sells its product or service to another Customer directly.

For example, Online platforms where a customer can sell his products and other customers can directly buy the products from there.

Real-World Example: Olx, Quikr, Etsy

Consumer to Business (C2B)

In the Consumer to Business Transaction model the customers directly make the trade to the business. For instance, if you are from the programming field then you can give your services and enhance your skills at fiverr.com.

For example, A Freelancer can give his/her services to businesses on various online platforms.

Real-World Examples: Monster.com, TimesJobs.com, Fiverr.com, etc.
